2021: Die Pandemie streckte noch immer die Hände nach unserer Gesellschaft aus. Sie hielt den einen mehr, den anderen weniger fest im Griff. Verworrene Argumente für dieses oder jenes aus den unterschiedlichsten Lagern von Wissenden, Verunsicherten, Predigern und Ignoranten füllten stetig die mediale Diskussion und die privatesten Räume.

Während ich stetig bemüht war, meinen eigenen Weg durch das pandemische Geäst zu finden, war ich fotografisch auf der Suche nach etwas Neuem. Nach über 10 Jahre fast exklusiv mit Großformat-Kameras und Nassplatten erlaubte ich mir einen Blick über den Tellerrand meiner eigenen fotografischen Insel. Es wäre befreiend, mobiler und agiler arbeiten zu können. Dann kam eine Pentax 67 zu mir. Schwer und solide, aber „nur“ Mittelformat. Die erste Rolle Film projizierte eine verlockende Aussicht neuer Möglichkeiten in meinen Kopf. Gepaart mit einem für mich neuen Printverfahren, sogenannten Lith-Prints entwickelte sich für mich eine neue Form des fotografischen Ausdrucks. Das Bild „2021“ verbindet all diese Momente in einem wunderschönen Print.

2021: The pandemic still had its hands on our society. It held one person more firmly in their grip, the other less. Convoluted arguments in favor of this or that from the most diverse camps of the knowledgeable, the uncertain, the preachers and the ignorant constantly filled the media discussion and our most private spaces.

While I was constantly endeavoring to find my own way through the pandemic labyrinth, I was looking for something new in my photography. After more than 10 years of working almost exclusively with large format cameras and wet plates, I allowed myself to look beyond my own photographic island. It would be liberating to be able to work in a more mobile and agile way. Then a Pentax 67 came my way. Heavy and solid, but “only” medium format. The first roll of film projected a tantalizing prospect of new possibilities into my head. Paired with a new printing process for me, so-called lith prints, a new form of photographic expression developed for me. The picture “2021” combines all these moments in a beautiful print.
